Critical literacy

we are learning about critical literacy. This is taking apart text and finding what hidden meanings it has, what it makes you feel and what it tries to portray.

Outsiders ( book): how does this text construct a version of reality? The outsiders introduces us to whats going on in the mind of the main character. The things the characters are thinking is very different from what they are acting. It used the idea that people are tough on the outside and soft on the inside. The author S.E. Hinton bases this on the idea of a 1965 gang war. She grounds the characters and has positive/ negative actions that make the text seem real.

Outsiders ( movie): How are children, teenagers, young adults, and adults constructed in this text?

The children are though of as helpless and naive. The teenagers are loud and violent ( both greasers and soc's) Young adults are just as violent but look after the younger people. The older adults aren't really present aparts from the cops, nurses and parents of the kids stuck in the fire.

Macbeth( movie): What genre does this text belong to? in Shakespearean plays Macbeth is a tragedy because the protagonist ends up dying after falling into madness and slaughter. In modern genres it would be a historical fiction because it was set in 11th century Scotland. It would also fall under an action category because of the fighting, plotting and war. It also meets fantasy because of the strong message of witchcraft and fate.

  1. I really love the book you picked . You had a really good explanation between the book and the movie, I really liked that. Something you could improve on is your capital letters and lower case . But other than that it was good work!

  2. Hey Rheanna,I like how you told us what you are learning and things from your perspective, you have added how they are constructive and how the outsiders introduced. I think you could add some more information, over all keep up the good work :))))

To support my learning I ask you to comment as follows:
1. Something positive - something you like about what I have shared.
2. Thoughtful - A sentence to let us know you actually read/watched or listened to what I had to say
3. Something thoughtful - how have you connected with my learning? Give me some ideas for next time or ask me a question.
