What is the Fair Trading Act?  The fair trading act is a law which promotes consumer protection when it comes to purchasing.  How does it affect me? It affects me because this is the law which protects us from scams and false advertising.

consumer protection when it comes to purchasing. It is a helpful act because it helps to keep nz consumers safe.
What is the commerce commission’s goal?
To help consumers get the products or services they paid for.
  1. Who besides the commission is responsible for the act and can take their own legal action?
the producers and consumers are responsible for the maintenance of the act

2.Who are the two types of groups the act applies to?
the act applies to the Producers and consumers.

Understand your compliance obligations


  1. What do the acts apply to? To people buying and selling of items or services.
Does it only apply if you intend to deceive? no it doesn't. Explain?
Because the law states you mustn't falsely advertise, even if you do not intend to deceive.
Whose ‘shoes’ must the business put themselves into?
businesses must put themselves into The shoes of those buying the products.

What is the commission empowered to do?
To charge people for false advertisement and empower consumers when it comes to making complaints about companies. .


Reporting a business

  1. If you need to report a business, how do you do this? You can call or email the commerce commision website.

Here in new zealand we have consumer rights and an act which protects consumers from false advertisement.The act is called the fair trade acts and provides security for consumers. The fair trading act makes it illegal to falsely advertise products or services. The fair trading act is a useful act in new zealand and helps to keep us consumers safe from scams.
