What am I learning: About how settings can change the perception of a film.
How does this show my learning: I have explained why setting is important.
I am wondering: where dragon heart was filmed.

Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary was an amazing man and has accomplished so much for New Zealand. He was born in Auckland in 1919 and grew up in Tuakau. He was part of the 1953 British team trying to climb Mt Everest.  He succeeded and brought home his fame. He died in 2008 and became a New Zealand icon.

Sir Edmund Hillary is features on the five dollar note with a native penguin and mount Aoraki. These two things are iconic to New Zealand because one is our largest mountain and the other is an native species.

Stamps and banknotes are a way of preserving culture because the design can last for many years and they can be designed to capture iconic memoirs.

In 1958 Hillary edited a book called ' challenge of the unknown'. Why would the publishers want Hillary as an editor? The publishers would have wanted Hillary as the editor because of his experience with challenges of the unknown ( Mt Everest).

Edmund's phrase about how he was just an average bloke and the media made him into an icon shows how media and news can change our perception of people and things. The media can impact on a nations identity and  culture because we learn things via the media and the media can obscure our view and opinion by adding and missing out details. A nations status is determined by how other people talk about and act towards a nation.

The qualities that both Michael Joseph Savage and Edmund Hillary share are they are both hard working, resilient , physically and mentally strong.

bullying

Bullying, everybody knows what it is, how can people be so awe-full  to each other. Bullying is when somebody delebritly and repeatedly put down, torment, hurt or abuse some body else. Bullying is useful to understand because we need to know how to identify bullies and stop them

Here is a link to an article about how we as New Zealanders are a nation of bullies. I felt out raged when I watched the videos and I can relate to being bullied. They key messages about bullying are it is unacceptable. I think this is important because bullying is an issue and needs to be addressed.

Its a drama!!!!

This term in drama we got to choose a scene from a play to act out and preform infront of the class. My group ( Chloe, Jaime, Tanaya and I) Choose a scene from the play one man two governors where Roscoe reveals herself as Rachel. This scene was fun to act out because of the use of sarcasm and explicit language ( we used the word tits :)).

Our story is about a man who works for two governors and has to keep switching lives to suit his bosses. The play has some great characters and interesting dialogue. The story is set in 1963 and is about a man who is employed by two governors and tries to keep the two from meeting. To complicate things further one of the governors is actually his twin sister Rachel in disguise, her brother being killed by none other than her boyfriend Stanley. The play is full of twists and turns at every corner.

I enjoyed working with my group and we all worked together pretty well. Our acting skills have vastly improved since when we started this topic and we are all proud of how our acting has changed. We have learnt how to use our voice, height ( or lack there of) and tone to convey a story. Sadly on the performance day we did not have Jaime here so we had to improvise. We swapped rolls around to make the scene make scents but we failed...

The play was still fun to act out and we had a good time acting. Next time we would have all our members here so we can act to the best of our ability. Drama is a great subject and Mr Taylor is a great teacher.I really enjoy acting and will be taking drama next year so stay tuned.
