Friday 1st of February.
What we did: We made chicken and rice patties. I worked with Tana and we worked well together. The end product was tasty and had a good texture. Next time I would add sweet chilli sauce to the mix. The chicken and rice was cooked prior to the practical. We shredded the chicken first. Next we grated the carrot and chopped the spring onion. ( I accidentally cut my self but we got through this set back). Next we grated the cheese ( this was pretty easy. The next thing to do was to beat the eggs and put all the ingredients together. We greased the muffin tins, put in the mixture and let them cook in the oven.
What i learnt: I learnt that rice can cause food poisoning if left out for more than 24 hours because of the bacteria called listeria.
We need to make sure we are working with different food on different boards to avoid food poisoning.
Bacteria doesnt like to be at a temperature over 60 degrees.
What i would work on: Next time I would add sweet chilli to the mixture.

Human rights
This term in social studies we are learning about human rights. The declaration of human rights' by the the United Nations was established in 1948 after the end of WWII. There are 30 rights which should apply to every human being on this earth. Many of them are about freedom and basic human rights.
The most interesting thing I have learnt so far is the story of Malala; an Afghani girl who fought for girls education , got shot by the Taliban and lived to fight another day.
At the moment we are reading a book about this boy named Iqbal. He is a child slave who works in a factory, escaped and helped many other children. This links back to the human rights focus because Iqbal, like so many children around the world, has had his human rights breached. I am really enjoying this topic and it has opened my eyes to what the world can be like.

lets get toning
This week in art we have been learning about toning. Toning is the shades and colours or an art work. This week I have been working on my toning skills and have already made progress. Learning how to draw and shade shapes will be very helpful in my future artwork. My next steps are to becoming a better artist is to understand proportions.
